The present building complex was developed from 1914; work resumed in 1915 after wartime interruptions. Josef Weidenbacher oversaw the overall plan, while Otto Holzer designed the funeral hall, mortuary and gateway, among other buildings.

Origins: Present building complex from 1914. The cemetery is in Pfersee, at Stadtberger Straße 80a, 86157 Augsburg. Its area is approximately 17.69 hectares.

Design and present-day character

A park cemetery in Pfersee with an Art Nouveau funeral hall, tree-lined avenues and several memorial sites for victims of war and Nazism.

Read this character description together with the development of Augsburg West Cemetery: it identifies what gives the grounds their present identity without turning the cemetery into a purely historical attraction. A visit can focus on spatial structure and named orientation points while leaving individual graves undisturbed.

Distinctive features on the grounds

The funeral hall has Art Nouveau features.

Otto Holzer designed the Neo-Baroque gateway, among other buildings.

Josef Wager’s honorary grave is documented as field 38:W:64/65.

Connect the account with the grounds
